Feedback from Clients

We had Mary Clare's help with breastfeeding our second son. After a terrible time with my first resulting in breastfeeding ending at around 4 months, it was really important to me that I was able to breastfeed our second. Mary Clare helped us to devise a plan to get my milk supply up and baby gaining weight and latching well after a few weeks of weight loss and a very hungry baby. She supported us over the course of a few weeks until things were finally heading in the right direction. Without her I'm sure we would not have succeeded. She's kind, supportive and has all the tricks. With her help I've just gotten to a year of breastfeeding my Eddie and it has been such a joy.
Thank you Mary Clare!

I can't recommend or thank Mary Clare enough.
I had trouble breastfeeding both my girls and only managed to sort out the feeding problems with Mary Clare's help. Feeding is now a pleasure and a wonderful time to bond with my second little girl. I am pain free and my baby is gaining weight. I couldn't be happier.

Mary Clare diagnosed a tongue tie when my daughter was 4 1/2 weeks old. Feeding had been very painful and she was not putting on weight. It made a difference straight away, but took some time for the baby to learn to feed well. I went on to feed her for 10 months.
My second baby also had a tongue tie. I knew within 24 hours, rang Mary Clare and it was corrected before he was 2 days old. He has been thriving since and I have been free of pain.
Mary Clare was immediately available whenever I needed her - in our own home. I am very glad that we made the investment in her services. Being able to feed my babies successfully has been so important to my confidence as a mother.

Breastfeeding - from Pain to Pleasure
Getting the right help and advice from experts is always worth the money. This is the conclusion I came to after seeing Mary Clare McCarthy, private lactation consultant, based here in Wellington. My last breastfeeding experience was anything but fun. As a first time mother with newborn twins I was determined to give my babies the best start in life, but I was not prepared for the myriad of problems I experienced... more

Keep Asking...
I remember asking a lot of questions about breastfeeding soon after my son Cam was born but didn't get any resolution and assumed it was just supposed to be that painful! After four weeks, I was getting to the point that I was dreading each feed. I really wanted to continue but didn't know if I could manage. Finally, at my husband's insistence (and after a recommendation from my midwife) I contacted Mary Clare. She was able to come around the following day and immediately identified and rectified a tongue-tie. Once fixed, this gave immediate relief and after a second visit a week later I am now confident to continue breastfeeding. So my advice is even if you have asked questions and sort help but are not satisfied with your breastfeeding, KEEP ASKING and seek further help. The sooner it is resolved the better and I found Mary Clare to be excellent. Her experience is invaluable in providing assistance. She also can provide other tips on burping and different feeding positions etc.

Mary Clare helped me with both of my newborn sons who had significant tongue ties and needed a lot of help learning to breastfeed after having their ties cut. She was calm, kind and endlessly supportive when I was feeling stressed and overwhelmed. I came to trust her completely and really appreciate how honest and direct she was with me. I have been able to happily breastfeed two big healthy boys without pain, thanks to Mary Clare. Without her I am absolutely sure I would have given up on breastfeeding altogether so I am extremely grateful and cannot recommend her enough.

Hi Mary Clare,
I just wanted to let you know how well things are going and thank you for all your help. Both girls are latching on with no problems and are basically fully breastfed (apart from a small formula top up at night to help them sleep through).
Thank you so much for all your help, it was well worth continuing as it is really easy and quick to feed both girls at once now.
Many thanks.

As a second time mum, that had breastfed her first baby for 12 months, it was assumed that I would have the breastfeeding thing sorted, so I was very disappointed when I struggled to feed my second baby. It was suggested that I contact Mary Clare to see if she could help me latch my wee girl on and get her feeding. On our first appointment Mary Clare found that our baby was tongue-tied and that that was why she was not feeding well. After explaining to us what that meant and how we could resolve it, Mary Clare gently sorted our baby out and with some help and follow-up visits before we knew it we were feeding successfully. If Mary Clare had not come around to see us and then been there to help and offer words of encouragement our girl would have been a bottle feed baby and I would have missed the joy of being able to breastfeed her. I would, and do, recommend Mary Clare to anyone having troubles, she is the best.

I always knew I wanted to breastfeed so when I had difficulty I was devastated.  Mary Clare had such confidence that it could all be fixed and become enjoyable.  I put faith in her belief and experience.  She was right!

I was ready to give up breastfeeding, but thanks to your care and support I have continued and now enjoy it.
I was able to feed Sophie in lots of weird and wonderful places that I would never have imagined would have been possible before you came to see me.
I was hating breastfeeding and wanting to give up, but now I can see myself carrying on for sometime. Thank-You.
I never anticipated having problems breastfeeding. I thought it would just happen. I was so glad someone told me of your service.
The feeding is going much better with virtually no pain. My baby has gained weight well. I feel so encouraged.
Thanks to your care and support to overcome the challenges I have been enabled to breastfeed my baby.
It is so helpful to have someone skilled come into my home and help me one on one.
